Q. How much does it cost to purchase a historic Franklin License Plate?

Q. Do I have to join Franklin Tomorrow to order the historic Franklin plate?
A. No. The plate may be purchased for $35 without Franklin Tomorrow membership. For an additional $14.95, you will receive charter membership in Franklin Tomorrow with benefits including discounts at local retailers, invitations to Franklin Tomorrow and community events, and volunteer opportunities. Membership covers one or more individuals in a household. So, for example, if you purchased two license plates for your family’s two vehicles, you would pay $14.95 once for the annual Franklin Tomorrow membership for everyone in your household.
Q. How much is it each year to renew the plate?
A. The historic Franklin specialty license plate annual fee is $35.
Q. When will I receive the plate I ordered?
A. Franklin Tomorrow must pre-sell 1,000 plates before the State of Tennessee will begin producing the plate for distribution to county clerk offices. Once the historic Franklin plate reaches 1,000 pre-sold plates, it may take the State of Tennessee anywhere from 4-6 months before the purchaser receives his or her plate. We estimate the plate to be available sometime in 2008.
Q. What if Franklin Tomorrow does not pre-sell 1,000 plates?
A. Franklin Tomorrow will refund your money.
Q. How much money goes to Franklin Tomorrow?
A. $17.50 of the $35 additional license fee will be returned to Franklin Tomorrow annually. The proceeds will support and expand Franklin Tomorrow programs and special future projects.
Q. Can I order a plate if I do not live in Tennessee?
A. The historic Franklin plate is a Tennessee specialty license plate and, therefore, is available only for vehicles registered in Tennessee. Your vehicle may be registered anywhere in Tennessee, not just Williamson County.
Q. How will I know how things are going and when my plate is ready?
A. Current updates on plate sales will be available on www.franklinplate.com. Your local county clerk will notify you by letter when your plate has been received and ready for pickup.
Q. If I have already gone through inspection and received my new tags, do I have to pay to get new tags for the new plate?
A. If you still have time left on your current plate and tags when you receive notification that your historic Franklin specialty plate is ready, then the fee will be prorated. Your tags will be renewed for another year, and your new historic Franklin specialty plate will expire one year from the time you pick up your plate.
Q. Can I order this plate for a commercial vehicle?
A. Specialty plates cannot be used on any commercial vehicles.
